As part of its daily activities, SD Worx publishes large sections of the Belgian legislation and agreements between unions and employers. To improve input, maintenance and consultation, the client has decided to migrate from its mainframe environment to Documentum.
Solution
To support re-use, the customer decided to migrate content to XML. Panoptic demonstrated Documentum’s XML support capabilities in a proof-of-concept. In close collaboration with the customer, Panoptic then analysed the requirements and developed both the Documentum infrastructure and the XML import functions. and the .NET based web interfaces for consulting the content online.
For XML authoring, we integrated Documentum with XMetal, adding custom interfaces for entering, categorizing and relating content, shielding the editors from the technicalities of XML and content management. The requirement for multi-faceted content categorization posed a particular challenge. For the development of the .NET based consultation environment, we payed special attention to easy navigation through content and related information.
For publication to various existing and future intranet and extranet sites and for feeds to customers, we set up Documentum’s web publishing module. After migrating the content of a few pilot departments, the customer started the global migration to the new platform.
